Happy new moon

Third solar eclipse this year, and a good time to set intentions for the coming month. I’ll be signing up for a cob building workshop September 10-18, and finally a PDC in LA! Hope to see you in one (of both) of these.

The stars are aligning. We are learning lots about community living and are making many amazing new friends. So much in the works right now, I can’t even begin. Soon I’ll sit down and let you in on some of the plans.

Urban Forage Event

What a great weird day…

Last night I went to a friend’s new home. He, with his wife and newborn, just moved much closer to me. It was a “we got the key” party, so Erin and I went. We had a couple of drinks and a whole lot of laughs.

Today I woke up with a head ache, the Irish flu kind. But also I felt somehow weird. After laying in bed chatting with Erin for a while, I started making frequent emergency trips to the porcelain god’s altar. Now, I know what you are thinking, “that’s what you get when you drink to much”. Well, it wasn’t that type of feeling, this was more like a food bug.

All this made me feel like crap, so we missed the Farmer’s Market today. Specially annoying because I’m finally having some friends over to help out with the garden and there is a guy there that sells vegetable plants for a dollar each. I’ll have to do that part next week.

Now to the main reason for this post.

At about one p.m. I realised that today was the Urban Forage Event I put on my handy dandy blog calendar. Suddenly I was up against the wall. The options were, staying home feeling like crap and doing nothing fun all day, or going to the event and risking vomiting all over my fellow foragers and shaming the family name. By one thirty, I was dressed and ready to face the world.

I’m very glad I chose the later of the two options. I will to put all my notes and pictures together, then I’ll post all the awesome stuff I was learned there.

As an aside, one of the gentlemen there shared a link with me on a book written in the early 1900s about permanent agriculture. Enjoy this great read, I know I will.

Intro to Permaculture Design DVD

I just finished watching the Intro to Permaculture Design DVD from Geoff Lawton and am happy to report, I’ve drank the Kool aid. This DVD is only scratching the surface of the concept but is incredibly inspiring. Seeing the Guilds having taken form and all the food forests… Oh my! If you personally know me, we can arrange for you to borrow it (if you damage it I’ll compost you).

On the same note. Remember the Greening the Dessert video I posted about? It gets better. It looks like PRI is conducting a Greening the Dessert II, except this time around they bought the land. Sasha Rabin is leading a course there on Natural Building! Talk about the perfect storm. Natural Building, PRI, Greening the Dessert II. Oh to dream of time off and money…

Eden Dale is the place to be

I believe that here are no coincidences. So as you might have read, I went to a Transition meeting a little while back. I signed up to their news letter, but being as they are kinda far I asked for more local contacts. Lo and behold they send me the info of a an Urban Farm called Edendale. These people are literally across the lake from me. No more than a ten minute bike ride.

While upholding permaculture practices they harvest water, do bio-intensive farming, composting, aqua culture, raise small farm animals. The list is incredible! I’m planing on going there on Monday to scope it out. They teach classes in all sorts of awesome things. Last I heard they did a cob oven!  Oh did I mention they WWOOf? More on that later. Now I’m going on a double date.

Viva la revolucion!
