Progressing towards the goal

Mobile is the new stable

Mobile is the new stable

Serendipitous as our life is, we have made some great strides this past month. It is the end of a wonderful chapter on our journey, and we’ll be leaving the community for a more rustic lifestyle. Thanks to good ol’ Craigslist we have found a new place to live and a new “home”.

Great Permaculture Resource

Just found Permaculture Media Blog. This Blog is so full of information I just feel like I’ll never have to buy another book or film again. Best of all it’s all FREE!

You like documentary films? How about on , or , or , etc…

Read much? Well then throw your peepers at this , or , or  , etc

I could do this all night long… Instead I’ll let you head on over and see for yourself.

Happy new moon

Third solar eclipse this year, and a good time to set intentions for the coming month. I’ll be signing up for a cob building workshop September 10-18, and finally a PDC in LA! Hope to see you in one (of both) of these.

The stars are aligning. We are learning lots about community living and are making many amazing new friends. So much in the works right now, I can’t even begin. Soon I’ll sit down and let you in on some of the plans.

Intro to Permaculture Design DVD

I just finished watching the Intro to Permaculture Design DVD from Geoff Lawton and am happy to report, I’ve drank the Kool aid. This DVD is only scratching the surface of the concept but is incredibly inspiring. Seeing the Guilds having taken form and all the food forests… Oh my! If you personally know me, we can arrange for you to borrow it (if you damage it I’ll compost you).

On the same note. Remember the Greening the Dessert video I posted about? It gets better. It looks like PRI is conducting a Greening the Dessert II, except this time around they bought the land. Sasha Rabin is leading a course there on Natural Building! Talk about the perfect storm. Natural Building, PRI, Greening the Dessert II. Oh to dream of time off and money…

Raised Field Agriculture in the Lake Titicaca Basin

Raised Field Agriculture
While reading my new awesome Permaculture Magazine I was struck by an article that spoke of an ancient Incan way of agriculture. This is called Raised Field Agriculture. People would dig up canals and pile the dirt to create raised beds. These canals help the plants by providing water most, if not all, of the year. This also creates a micro climate because of heat retention from the waterways, thereby protecting the plants from frost. If that is not enough to get you thinking of renting some heavy machinery… it’s reported that fish could have been raised there, creating a kind of aquaculture that at the same time replenishes the soil with some needed Nitrogen. Did I forget to mention canoeing?

Sweet Christmas!

So my sweet angel of a wife Erin gave me a subscription to Permaculture,  a UK based permaculture magazine. I love it! In it there is an eye opening article on dog food. The author speaks of giving his dog rabbit from his farm and stomachs from a local butcher. This is because the poor animals are carnivores and are not built to eat this junk we call “dog food”. When feeding this way, it was reported that the teeth became pearly white, hair acquires a nice lustre, “dog breath” is gone, and more amazing things…. you should read the magazine, in my opinion it ranks right up there with MotherEarthNews.
Also as a follow up to my Do try this at home post, I was given a very nice 3″ strop and ceramic mug for my soap… I can’t wait to shave!
