Serendipitous as our life is, we have made some great strides this past month. It is the end of a wonderful chapter on our journey, and we’ll be leaving the community for a more rustic lifestyle. Thanks to good ol’ Craigslist we have found a new place to live and a new “home”.

Since building the fortress, I’ve learned some hard lessons here on the land. Per instance, gophers are not the only animals that think my garden bed is a all you can eat buffet. We also have deer and bunnies. As cute as all these creatures are…

I recently helped a friend out with getting some honey from his bee hives. Never having been near a hive nor stung I had no natural fear of bees at all, nor did I know if I was allergic. Well, armed with pink dish washing gloves and window screening tied over a hat I was ready for action (I wish I had a picture too).

There are many DIY projects on getting off grid energy. This one struck me as a good one to share and maybe make happen here on the land.
We’ve had many a good times together but , alas, my trooper of a car is on it’s waning hours.
It’s hitting the 250,000 mark soon and sounding less like a well oiled machine and more like a tractor. Don’t get me wrong, I love this car, but it’s time to be realistic.
So in that vane, I’m looking at options. I’ve not settled on a car yet, but what I do know is that it will have this SVO conversion kit installed. I’ve mentioned my interest on a converted diesel bus before, but this is a much more attainable and logical goal… for now at least.
A while back I helped some friends set up a garden bed in their back yard. Paul, with his handy dandy iphone, set up a time lapse of the whole thing. Quite amusing, sadly we did not notice it getting darker so some of it is kinda dark in the middle. Oh well..

Living here on the land is very interesting to say the least. Interactions are a minimum of 15 minutes, and always very informative and sincere. A walk to get the laundry can take you half an hour on average.
On a walk of the perimeter the other day, I found two old solar panels laying in the trash a.k.a. storage pile. You can imagine with what speed I picked them up. Of course asking the pertinent people if I could use them. After consulting with my partner in DIY crime, Aaron (he donated some needed hardware), we set up a proof of concept solar system. It needs some refinement and the light is just a single 3 watt LED, but it’s a start. Best of all it cost me $0.

I have never worried about cold weather before, nor about any animals eating my bounty. Those days are over… Now I live in an area with plant killing frost and gophers a plenty. In lieu of this, I have created the raise bed fortress.
Turn down the lights and queue the drums please:

Third solar eclipse this year, and a good time to set intentions for the coming month. I’ll be signing up for a cob building workshop September 10-18, and finally a PDC in LA! Hope to see you in one (of both) of these.
The stars are aligning. We are learning lots about community living and are making many amazing new friends. So much in the works right now, I can’t even begin. Soon I’ll sit down and let you in on some of the plans.
